Our History
(Notre Histoire)
Zyra University of Medical Sciences was founded in 2010 with a bold vision: to create a world-class institution that would address the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in West Africa while maintaining the highest standards of medical education.
Our founders, a group of distinguished physicians and educators from across the continent, recognized that Africa's healthcare challenges required homegrown solutions. They established Zyra on the principles of excellence, accessibility, and community service—values that continue to guide us today.
From our first cohort of 50 medical students, we have grown into a comprehensive university offering programs in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and public health. Our graduates now serve in hospitals, clinics, research institutions, and public health organizations throughout Côte d'Ivoire, across Africa, and around the world.
Over the years, we have built partnerships with leading medical institutions globally, established cutting-edge research centers, and contributed groundbreaking discoveries to the field of tropical medicine and public health. Today, Zyra stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to what African institutions can achieve when given the resources and support to excel.

Zyra University of Medical Sciences is fully accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d'Ivoire, ensuring that our programs meet the highest national standards for medical education.
Our medical programs are also recognized by the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and the African Council for Medical Accreditation, allowing our graduates to practice throughout the region and pursue international opportunities.
We maintain partnerships with internationally accredited institutions and regularly undergo rigorous quality assurance reviews to ensure our curriculum, faculty, and facilities continue to meet global standards of excellence.
